See (newzealandecology.org/nzje/3440/) for a publication describing NZEnvDS. Generating using a geomorphon algorithm, which uses pattern recognition concepts to classify terrain based on a DEM. Individual pixels are allocated to one of the following 10 values:

  1. flat
  2. summit
  3. ridge
  4. shoulder
  5. spur
  6. slope
  7. hollow
  8. footslope
  9. valley
  10. depression.

Generated using r.geomorphon (Jasiewicz et al. 2013; Jasiewicz & Stepinski 2013) in GRASS GIS (Neteler et al. 2012). The NZEnvDS variable “elevation” was used as the DEM input.
